An abundance of different wildlife species inhabit the ranches and since the topography, vegetation and soil and water conditions are different from ranch to ranch, different forms of wildlife thrive on each. Some we hunt, some we catch, and some we can only catch on film and in our hearts. On Lonesome Pine Ranch, native pecan bottoms and year round live springs are a natural setting for deer, wild turkey, mountain lions, bobcats, fox, coyotes, dove, quail and ducks, all of which have been seen on the ranch. In 2008, three secluded wildlife viewing stands which blend into the scenerey have been constructed overlooking feeders. From American Bald Eagles, snow geese, egrets, ducks, quail and barn owls to the Painted Bunting, birders can find a wealth of species to enjoy. Hopefully someday soon, the endangered Attwater Prairie Chicken will also be returned to the ranch. Fisherman have a choice of 12 lakes with over 35 acres of water where they can catch and release large mouthed bass, striper bass, bluegill and croppie. Bass over 6 pounds in weight have been caught in the 13 acre lake in the center of Lonesome Pine Ranch. Fisherman enjoy striper bass fishing in the 8 acre lake at Prairie Place Ranch. Over two miles of San Bernard River which runs through the center of Eagle Roost Ranch has live water year round. Deer populations have increased so that limited deer hunting is now available to our guests. Seasonal dove and wild bird quail hunting is offered and on Lonesome Pine Ranch, a hunting preserve, quail hunting is available year round. Coyote hunts and raccoon hunts guided with coon dogs are also available. Whatever our guests desire, they can commune with nature and enjoy the same abundant wildlife in historic accommodations that attracted the early Texas settlers to this area almost two hundred years ago. |
